Riverfront Connection

This design aims to use our city’s existing amenities and connect them together with a riverfront park. Fairmont Park, Blue Earth Plaza, and KS Hill are the existing amenities near the Kansas River. In addition to these spaces, I am proposing an urban extension of 3rd Street in the current Midwest Concrete Materials site. The riverfront park will be centrally located between these amenities and provide safe and direct pedestrian access over Ft. Riley Blvd. and the Kansas River to each of the destinations. The riverfront park on the east side of the river will link together the existing Fairmont Park trails to KS Hill by providing a pedestrian trail across K-177. Overall, this design will transform our currently separated riverfront destinations into easily accessed and well connected amenities for the people of Manhattan.

The section view below shows the stormwater terraces at the east riverfront park. Th e terraces will allow runoff to infiltrate and filter before entering the Kansas River.
